Following an investigation by the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit, charges have been laid against a Stettler man.

ICE began an investigation “into an individual in possession of child sexual abuse materials” in October 2023.

On Feb. 21, 2024, officers from the Stettler RCMP detachment, along with the ALERT ICE team searched a Stettler residence, seizing “electronics and other storage devices” related to the investigation which provided support for the charges.

During the search warrant execution, unauthorized firearms were also found.

Following the search warrant, police have charged Daniel Benjamin Penner, 36, of Stettler, with:

  • Transmit child pornography
  • Accessing child pornography
  • Possession of child pornography
  • Unauthorised possession of a firearm
  • Breach of probation order

Penner, who was already on probation for similar charges stemming from a 2020 investigation and conviction, was remanded into custody pending his court date on March 14, at the Stettler Court of Justice.
