A driver has been charged following a single-vehicle motor vehicle collision with a building which occurred on July 2 in Stettler.
Around 20 minutes past 4 p.m. on July 2, a 2019 GMC Sierra pickup truck jumped the curb at the Canalta Hotel, shot across Highway 12, jumped another curb, and raced across the parking lot of Heart Haven Lodge eventually coming to a rest within the dining room of the facility.
According to RCMP media relations, the incident occurred “minutes” before the facility was set to serve the evening meal so the dining room was, fortunately, empty and there were no reported injuries among staff or residents.
Officers who attended the scene began an investigation and the driver was charged under the province’s impaired driving sanctions, not under the criminal code, so their name can not be released.
The driver was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries before being released.
Representatives from Heart Haven Lodge did not reply to a request for comment by publishing time.
