Tattoos are something that may last a lifetime. With awareness, hopefully cancer will soon be eliminated in our lifetime.
People will once again join in the fight against cancer from March 28 to April 30 at Cin City Tattoos in Lacombe.
The tattoo parlour will be having its second annual fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) for cancer awareness month.
Cin City is taking part in the CCS’s Reach for a Cure program to generate funds and create awareness for the CCS.
Two tattoo artists will be decorating skin with cancer ribbons or the CCS daffodil logo for a minimum price of $50. There are different colour ribbons for different kinds of cancer with 100 per cent of the proceeds going to the CCS.
Last year was the first year for the fundraiser and it made a huge impression on the community and raised a lot of money for the CCS. Last year they had hoped to make between $1,000 to $2,000 but central Alberta came through and helped raise $9,056 with approximately 130 tattoos and donations in 20 days for the CCS.
Brandon Fancie, one of the tattoo artists, is looking forward to this year’s fundraiser and hopes to exceed last years amount.
“It was a big success last year and worth doing it again,” he said. “This year we hope to raise more money than last time.”
Fancie believes that the fundraiser is for a good cause and that the money raised will go to benefit a lot of people.
“I think everyone has been touched by cancer,” he said. “A lot of people can definitely relate to the cause and the Canadian Cancer Society helps in a lot of ways.”
Fancie and artist Cindy McKinnon will be alternating days so that people who want to get regular tattoos will still be able to get them.
In 2007, Ponoka residents also participated in the event, some groups and individuals made the trip to support the society.
