Temporary lane closures are planned in Ponoka this weekend

Temporary lane closures are planned this weekend and will continue possibly into Monday (Sept. 11), weather permitting.

The temporary lane closures will remain in place until the work is completed.

Crews will be completing micro-surfacing work as part of the Town of Ponoka’s annual Pavement and Concrete Improvement Programs on the following roadways:

• 50 St. (between 53 Ave. and 56 Ave.);

• 51 St. (between Hwy. 2A and 53 Ave.); and

• 57 Ave. (between 50 St. and 54 St).

Micro-surfacing is an application where a special coating is added to the top layer of asphalt, which preserves the underlying pavement by preventing oxidization and moisture penetration.

This process is a cost-effective treatment that prolongs the life of the road by slowing down ongoing deterioration. This helps the Town of Ponoka keep roadways in good condition and maximize the pavement lifecycle.

Motorists are reminded to drive with caution in construction zones and observe road signs and traffic safety personnel.
