There will be a temporary road closure on Chipman Avenue (between 50 St. and 51 St.) in the downtown area beginning Monday, Sept. 27 as crews conduct underground water and sewer line maintenance and repairs.

Access to businesses will be maintained throughout the construction period with the work being completed in two phases.

Beginning on Sept. 27, the west end of Chipman Avenue will be temporarily closed with vehicle access to a portion of the block available from 50 St.

The construction will then move to the east end of Chipman Avenue with vehicle access available from 51 St.

Pedestrian access to businesses along that block of Chipman Avenue will be maintained throughout the construction period via fenced pedestrian pathways.

The Town of Ponoka asks pedestrians to please stay on the pathways to maintain a safe distance from the construction zone and equipment.

Motorists are reminded to please drive with caution in construction zones and observe road signs and traffic safety personnel.

According to the contractor Thompson Ditching, the work is to begin at 7:30 a.m. Sept. 27 and is expected to be completed by 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 28. The temporary road closure will remain in place until the work is completed.
