Town administration vague on water problem areas

Residents on 50A Street met with council once again to give them an update on how frost heaves are affecting their mobile homes.

Residents on 50A Street met with council once again to give them an update on how frost heaves are affecting their mobile homes.

They reiterated their desire during council’s regular meeting Tuesday, Feb. 24 to see some of these issues sorted out. No new information was provided by residents except to say they are having bad luck finding a solution to the problem.

While council did not make any decisions on the matter, Mayor Rick Bonnett asked administration if there were some areas town planners were looking at.

Dave McPhee, director of operations and property services, said there is $305,000 in the budget to deal with areas of concern. “It’s going to take it for a few years,” he stated.

He said it would not be a full gutter-to-gutter repair as those can be quite costly. McPhee said there are seven areas in the Town of Ponoka where there are possibly high water levels. It was the results from two recent road evaluations that helped McPhee find some of the problem areas.

When asked in an email interview where those seven areas are, town administration declined to provide the information.

Donna Brinkworth, communications officer said crews are investigating “bubbles or puddles” areas to see what the issue is.

“This is a work in progress and he (McPhee) will be reporting the results as they know them, with appropriate work to follow,” said Brinkworth.

When asked further to clarify where the areas are, the town did not provide the locations.

Appointments to Economic Development Board (EDB)

Council approved new appointments to the EDB all starting March 1, 2015: Bruce Ordze, for a three-year term, Kori Hart, Denise Clark and Angie Taylor, all for one year terms.
