My name is Sandra Lyon. My family and I have resided in Ponoka for the last 25 years. As a resident and business owner in Ponoka I care about the future of our community. I am currently a two-term councillor seeking re-election for a third term.

As a Ponoka business owner for the last 18 years, I understand the importance of promoting our community for both residents and businesses alike. We need to offer services right here in town that will retain our young families and create many generations of future residents of Ponoka.

I cannot make promises that aren’t realistic for our community but I believe in working hard for the best interest of all residents while making decisions that are responsible.

In the last four years your existing council has worked well together, seeing many projects through that have improved our community as well as put forward initiatives that helped both business’ and residents. I believe that I can continue to contribute to seeing many more great projects through. It’s important to keep momentum going and not loose what is currently being worked on. Ponoka needs to continue to be progressive.

During this last term the committee boards I have sat on included: FCSS, Rimoka and PCPS which I have found all to be rewarding as they each bring a lot of value to our community.

There is always work to do but I believe that the priorities of your future council need to include:

- Continued planning, improving and building of recreation facilities including green spaces, trails and parks that accommodate residents of all ages.

- Moving from leasing to the ownership of the current Ponoka Civic Centre.

- Find ways to provide continual support to our local business including continuing the work of the Downtown Revitalization Plan.

- To continue the long-term planning of a new future RCMP facility.

I hope to bring your views and concerns to council in order to make positive changes in our town.
