Town of Ponoka appoints Sandra Lund as CAO

Ponoka town council voted unanimously at its regular meeting on Jan.12 to officially appoint Sandra Lund as the town’s chief administrative officer (CAO).

Lund has been acting as the interim CAO since council appointed her to that role last September.

“Council felt it was time to elevate Ms. Lund to the next level,” said Ponoka Mayor Rick Bonnett in a press release.

“After seeing her in action these past four months, she has impressed council with her leadership abilities. She’s very intuitive and responsive to the needs of the community, and she moves council’s direction along very expediently,” said Bonnett.

“Given that it’s an election year, the current council also felt it would be a significant benefit for a new council to have a strong CAO already in place to guide new council members through the transition process after they’re elected next fall,” he added.

Lund is a ‘homegrown’ CAO who was born and raised in the Ponoka area and has grown professionally in her career, moving up through the organization over the last 10 years, states the release.

“There’s a lot of value in having a person with that kind of depth and knowledge of the organization leading our administrative team,” said Bonnett.

Lund’s appointment took effect immediately following council’s approval of the motion.

“It’s a great privilege and an honour to serve the town in this capacity and I am grateful to council for the opportunity to continue leading such a capable and hardworking administrative team,” said Lund in the release.

“We look forward to achieving great accomplishments for our community over the coming year and into the future,” she said.
