The Town of Ponoka updated its fire ban on Tuesday as a result of rain Tuesday and more rain on the way.
The town removed the lawn mowing and lawn maintenance restriction from its fire ban.
“Citizens can resume lawn mowing and lawn maintenance operations, although they are asked to continue using extreme caution when operating any equipment that could cause a spark, including cutting tools (grinders, welders, etc.),” the town said in a release.
-No cigarette butts or ashes may be discarded anywhere except into appropriate receptacles or enclosed ashtrays designed specifically for that purpose; and
Under the fire ban, the following restrictions continue to be in effect:
– No open fires are permitted within the Town of Ponoka corporate limits;
– No use of fire pits;
– No fireworks; and
– No use of wood or charcoal burning outdoor appliances.
The use of propane and natural gas barbeques is still permitted at this time although citizens are advised to use extreme caution when operating their barbeques.
The fire ban will remain in effect until further notice.

The provincial government has also issued a province-wide fire ban for forest protection areas in Alberta.
