Starting Feb. 1, the Ponoka Aquaplex and Ponoka Arena Complex are offering three new membership passes that will give facility users expanded access to a number of programming options at both facilities.

The new passes include:

New arena pass

The new arena pass offers access to public skating and shinny hockey during the ice season, as well as the racquetball and squash courts and all of the drop-in programs that were introduced last year during the spring and summer months once the ice is removed. The drop-in programming includes badminton, floor hockey and basketball.

New Aquaplex pass

The new Aquaplex pass offers access to all pools (the main pool, deep tank and wading pool), including the corkscrew slide, diving board, hot tub, sauna, lane swimming, Family Swim, Everyone Welcome Swims and all Aquafit classes. “

Until now, Aquafitness was a separate membership pass. Now it’s included with your Aquaplex pass, which is something our users have been asking for,” said Andrew Jones, manager of Parks, Recreation and Facilities.

New recreation pass

The new recreation pass offers access to all of the programming listed above at both the Aquaplex and arena.

“With the recreation pass, you can now play racquetball, enjoy public skating, go swimming, take Aquafit classes, enjoy drop-in badminton, basketball and much more,” said Jones.

He noted that each of the passes can be purchased for one month, three months, six months, one year or as a 10-punch or 20-punch pass.

The rates for each pass vary depending on whether users choose to purchase a family pass, individual pass, or a senior’s, teen or child pass.

New group booking rates and birthday party packages will also be available.

Full details will be posted on the Town of Ponoka website on Feb. 1 at www.ponoka.ca/p/recreation.

Facility rates updated and streamlined

“We’ve reviewed and updated all of our rates and passes at our recreation facilities. This includes expanding the programming that you can access with the three new passes we’re now offering, and streamlining our rates into five categories to best fit the needs of our facility users,” said Jones.

He added facility rates have not changed since 2012.

Overall, the updated rates at the Aquaplex and Arena have increased by an average of seven per cent to offset facility operational costs and to support the continued expansion of programming at both facilities.

Drop-in programming expanding at arena

“Drop in programming at the Arena will be expanding once again this spring,” said Jones. “Stay tuned for more details to be announced in the coming months.”
