Town of Ponoka removes REP program at arena and Aquaplex

Masking and physical distancing still required

In response to the provincial government’s announcement on Feb. 8 that it will be lifting health measures in three stages, the Town of Ponoka is easing COVID-19 measures at its indoor recreation facilities.

As of Feb. 9, the town removed the Restriction Exemption Program (REP) at the Ponoka Aquaplex and the Ponoka Arena Complex. That means adult programming no longer requires proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result.

All visitors at the arena, Aquaplex and the Hudson’s Green Nature and Activity Centre will continue to be required to maintain physical distancing from other households and to wear masks unless they are participating in a sport activity on the ice or in the pool.

Beginning Monday, Feb. 14, children 12 and under will not be required to wear a mask at all town facilities.

The food concession will reopen at the arena beginning this weekend with consumption of food and beverages permitted when seated.

The Ponoka Aquaplex has returned to full operating capacity. To see the February Aquaplex schedule, please visit https://www.ponoka.ca/p/aquaplex.

The Ponoka Arena Complex is now operating at 50 per cent of fire code capacity, as it is considered a ‘large facility’ under provincial COVID-19 health regulations with a capacity in excess of 1,000 people. To see the Arena schedule, please visit https://www.ponoka.ca/p/ponoka-arena-complex.

Hudson’s Green has returned to operating at full capacity and private bookings continue to be available.

In keeping with current provincial health regulations and guidelines, visitors at all Town of Ponoka facilities will continue to be required to use available hand sanitizer and to stay home if you are feeling unwell or experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.

Mandatory masking with an approved face covering and physical distancing from other households also continue to be required for visitors at all town facilities, including the town office located at the Ponoka Civic Centre (200, 5604 50 Street).

Future easing of health restrictions

Once the provincial government moves to Stage 2 of its easing of health restrictions, the Town of Ponoka will respond with additional changes to health measures at its facilities as appropriate.

If you have any questions about COVID-19 regulations at Town of Ponoka facilities, please phone the town office at 403-783-4431.
