After a 10-day season, the Town of Ponoka’s Ice Sculpture Village is closing today, Jan. 20, due to “unseasonably warm temperatures,” the town said in a release.
The ice village, which featured various animal and interactive sculptures, officially opened on Jan. 10.
“While we had hoped to enjoy the ice sculptures longer, we’re really proud that the Town was able to bring this fantastic winter attraction to Ponoka this year,” said chief administrative officer Sandra Lund.
The town said the ice sculpture village attracted hundreds of visitors to Ponoka from other communities.
“It was a wonderful attraction that we hope to bring back again next year,” said Lund. “While I’m certainly not going to complain about above zero temperatures in January, I do hope that next year will bring more seasonal weather so we can enjoy the beauty and magic of the ice sculptures longer.”
The ice sculpture village, located at 5102 48 Ave., has been roped off and will be dismantled later this morning.
