On Sept. 28, 2021, Ponoka RCMP executed a search warrant at a residence in the Town of Ponoka, Alta. and arrested one female.

Kristina Mae Starr, 34, of Ponoka is facing two counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and five counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

Starr was released from custody on conditions to appear in Ponoka Provincial Court on Nov. 19, 2021.

The search resulted in the recovery of the enclosed trailer, a larger flat deck trailer, a number of large mud terrain truck tires, numerous hand and power tools and several bundles of cut copper wiring.

Ponoka RCMP had been searching for Starr on Sept. 25, but apprehended a different suspect instead.

On Sept. 25, 2021 at approximately 1:00 p.m., Ponoka RCMP attended a residence in the area of 51 St. and 52 Ave. in Ponoka, in an attempt to locate a suspect with an outstanding warrant.

While in the area, police observed a truck that pulled into the parking lot unrelated to their investigation. A male exited the truck, started looking around the property and engaged in conversation with the officers.

Officers conducted checks on the truck licence plate and VIN number and determined the licence plate was stolen out Edmonton, Alta. Further investigation determined that the truck was stolen out of Red Deer, Alta.

William Russell Johnston, 42, of Castor, Alta. was arrested on seven outstanding warrants relating to Criminal and Traffic Safety Act charges.

Johnston was charged with two counts of possession of property obtained by crime, obstructing a peace officer and six counts of failure to comply with a release order, as well as driving while unauthorized.

Following a judicial hearing, Johnston was remanded into custody and was scheduled to appear in Wetaskiwin Provincial Court on Sept. 28, 2021.

As a result of the search warrant executed on Sept. 28, Johnston is facing additional charges of two counts of possession of property over $5,000, five counts of possession of property under $5,000 and failure to complete with a release order.
