The evening will feature a fireworks display sponsored by the Town of Ponoka and Ponoka County. The fireworks will begin at 7:15 p.m. over the Battle River Valley. Citizens can view the fireworks from the downtown area or near the parking lot near the baseball diamonds at 46 Street and 43 Avenue. The holiday season will kick off in downtown Ponoka on Nov. 17 with the return of the annual Santa Claus Parade in conjunction with the Tree Lighting Ceremony and Almost Midnight Madness at businesses throughout Ponoka.

Santa Claus Parade

The Santa Claus Parade will roll through the downtown beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The parade will feature colourful, holiday-themed floats decorated by local businesses and community groups. Watch for the Town of Ponoka’s float once again this year featuring members of council and festive Christmas decorations, according to a release.

The parade will wind through downtown Ponoka along the following route beginning at the Ponoka Arena Complex.

• along 54 St.

• east on 46 Ave.

• north on 50 St.

• west on 51 Ave.

• south on 51 St.

• west on 48 Ave.

• south on 54 St. back to the arena

The town will set up temporary road closures along the parade route just before 5 p.m. The road closures will be removed once the parade ends.

Santa Claus and Tree Lighting Ceremony

Santa Claus and members of council will be stepping off their floats once the parade arrives at the Christmas tree in the lot beside the old library building at 48 Ave. and 51 St.

The parade will be followed by the Town of Ponoka’s annual Light Up Ponoka Christmas tree lighting ceremony, which will begin at about 6:15 p.m.

The tree lighting ceremony will bring greetings from Mayor Kevin Ferguson and a representative from Ponoka County.

For those who cannot attend the parade and the tree-lighting ceremony in person, there will be a live stream available on the Town of Ponoka’s Facebook page @TownofPonoka.

The Ponoka Community Market will also be welcoming visitors next door to the tree lighting ceremony from 3 to 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 17.
