Update on Ermineskin Cree Nation COVID-19 measures

The Ermineskin Cree Nation (ECN) band office continues to be closed to the public, however essential staff are available Mondays and Wednesdays from 1 to 3 p.m. by calling 780-585-3741. Appointments can be made for any support services such as membership forms or identification. There will be no walk-ins available.

ATCO trailers are also being procured by the four First Nations to house residents in the event they can no longer stay in their homes, if they have been quarantined due to at least one person having tested positive for COVID-19. The self-isolation centres are for essential personnel, Elders or those that are medically fragile.

Any quarantined households are being supported with ongoing food and cleaning supplies. Those needing additional supportive measures should contact the ECN director of emergency management at 780-312-3145.

ECN is also looking for volunteers to help spread awareness about how important basic needs are, who can spare a couple of hours, and are willing to cook, drive, distribute food and more, as well as home care aides. Contact the office with your name, what you want to volunteer for and contact your info.

Water delivery and waste collection will be done weekdays starting at 8:30 a.m. until the daily schedule is complete. Citizens are encouraged to ration water supplies. The waste transfer station is open Tuesday to Saturday from 9 a.m to 6 p.m. though it’s closed for lunch. The station accepts household garbage only and boxes should be folded inside bags to help reduce the number of bags in bins.

Reminder: do not dispose of non-biodegradable materials in the sewer system such as paper towel, rags, socks any flushable wipes. This is to prevent a back-up of the system.

Residents can stay up-to-date by going to www.ermineskin.ca or checking out their page on Facebook.

COVID-19 update: A Four Nations response plan has been initiated, with a focus on prevention; stay home, essential trips only, don’t visit or have visitors, wash hands frequently with soap and water for 20 seconds, clean high touch surfaces – nine parts water to one part bleach, maintain two metre (six feet) social distancing and follow self-isolation or quarantine protocols.

More information is available at www.mymhs.ca.

Transportation for medical reasons is still being provided with staff taking calls at 780-585-3830, but those with routine appointments should postpone them. Policies have been updated to make urgent transportation a priority.

However, those with flu-like symptoms will not be accepted and units have had partitions installed, meaning all clients must ride in the back seats. Due to safety restrictions, drivers will not be assisting clients.

Staying positive

A pair of Facebook pages have appeared recently to help people enjoy their time while also being entertained.

The first one is Pow Wow: Quarantine Dance Specials 2020 that features an Ontario man showing off his talents. The other is called Social Distance pow wow. Both encourage people to participate through their own social media posts.

Meanwhile, Ermineskin Elementary School teachers have made some videos to stay in touch with their students. They can be found by going to www.ees.maskwacised.ca.
