Ponoka RCMP seek the public’s help locating a stolen cremated remains along with valuable personal belongings.
On March 6 a break and enter incident occurred at a residence on Range Road 274 where the invaluable items were stolen. Suspects entered through the front door of the home and then smashed three locked doors to get to the contents in the rooms.
Among the items stolen were family documents. Jewelry from eight special jewelry boxes were cleaned out and then destroyed. Along with the damage to the bedroom doors, drawers from some furniture was damaged.
It appears that the suspects then drove into the garage door, causing significant damage to it. Also damaged from the break-in was some drywall in the home.
Some of the jewelry stolen is said to have been in the family for four generations.
Correction: Ponoka News originally reported that an urn was also stolen as well but the urn remained in the home, however, a special bag of items from Wombold Family Funeral Homes was stolen and in it were small velvet bags with small amounts of the victim’s mother’s cremated remains. This story also corrects how the suspects broke into the home. We regret the error.
