Wanted man resists arrest, found in possession of machetes

Donovan Rain of Maskwacis facing multiple charges

Black Press News Staff

Donovan Rain of Maskwacis, 28, has been charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, resisting a peace officer and other related charges following a difficult arrest in the Samson Townsite, according to a news release from the Maskwacis RCMP.

Two members of the Maskwacis RCMP Community Response Unit (CRU) were on patrol in the early afternoon on Dec. 4, when they spotted Rain, who was known to them and wanted for multiple armed robberies.

When police attempted to stop and arrest Rain, he entered the back seat of a nearby vehicle, occupied by two witnesses, and braced himself inside, denying that he was Donovan Rain.

Police attempted to remove the man from the vehicle and saw that he had a metal object concealed in the front of his clothing. Additional Maskwacis RCMP members were requested to assist with Rain, who continued to struggle with the two police officers on the scene.

Members were able to remove Rain from the vehicle in order to gain control of and arrest him without injury. The occupants of the vehicle were not harmed during the incident. Two machetes were located strapped to the front of Rain’s body.

Rain was remanded into custody for court in Wetaskiwin on Dec. 10.
