Water service has been restored to the Village of Alix, however a boil water advisory remains in effect.
The municipality made the call to shut off the water after noticing a leak in the waterline around 8:30 a.m. on May 10. Water service was restored to residents at 10 p.m. after a break in the line was discovered near the old fire hall.
“We did get water service restored to the residents, but we are still under a boil water advisory until further notice,” said Tanya Meston, Director of Corporate Services. “All of the samples have been sent away, but we’ll be under that notice until we get the results back, probably around Monday we’re thinking.”
“We had two water trucks brought in from Red Deer with potable water all throughout the day so that people could fill up. We also had several porta-potties and wash stations set up. The school also able to remain open yesterday with the wash stations and porta-potties, and it’s a P.D. day so the kids are not in school today.”
“We also hand delivered notices to the residents yesterday about the water issue and the boil water advisory, and we just wanted to express our thanks for everyone understanding the situation.”
Boil Water Advisory
Residents should bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before using it for drinking, brushing teeth, cleaning raw foods, preparing infant formula or juices and making ice among other things.
There is no need to boil the water for use in baths or washing clothes.
However, when washing hands, it is recommended that in addition to washing with soap and water that people also use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer containing more than 60 per cent alcohol after drying them.
