WCPS appoints two staff positions

Two acting prinicpals officially take positions

Wolf Creek Public Schools announced the appointment of two positions in news releases dated April 14.

Evie Van Scheik

Evie Van Scheik has been appointed as the principal of the Centennial Centre Patients’ School in Ponoka.

Van Scheik has been serving in the role of acting administrator at Centennial Centre Patients’ School for the past two years.

She has more than 20 years of experience with WCPS as a classroom teacher, inclusion coach, assistant principal, and principal at Mecca Glen School, from 2007 to 2012.

“I am thrilled to be appointed as the new principal at Centennial Centre Patients’ School,” said Van Scheik.

“I am looking forward to the great things we will continue to do as a team of educators, medical personnel, and therapists to build on the existing legacy of rehabilitative excellence for our clients. Centennial Centre Patients’ School is a unique and special educational institution, and I’m so honoured to be part of the team.”

Van Scheik holds a Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Calgary and a B.Ed from Canadian University College.

“We are most confident that Evie’s rich experience in working with a wide variety of students with diverse needs will enable her to continue her great work with the multidisciplinary teams at Centennial Centre, to best facilitate services for students and lead the specialized education team at Centennial Centre Patients’ School,” said Corrine Thorsteinson, assistant superintendent, People Services.

Nathan McEntee

Nathan McEntee, who has been serving as the acting principal at Ponoka Elementary School (PES) for the 2019/2020 school year, has officially been appointed as the principal of PES.

McEntee previously served as an assistant principal at PES, Grade 6 teacher, learning coach and technology coach.

“Nathan’s ability to build a solid rapport, strengthen relationships, and build trust will enable him to continue his great work leading the Ponoka Elementary School community,” said Corrine Thorsteinson, assistant superintendent, People Services.

McEntee is currently pursuing his Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership from Concordia University-Portland.

Additionally, he holds a B.Ed from the University of Alberta and a BSc. from the University of Lethbridge.

“I am excited and honoured to continue working with such an amazing group of dedicated staff here at Ponoka Elementary,” said McEntee.

“I have been fortunate to be a part of PES for nine years now and know the strong parent and community support we have. This has been especially evident in the past three weeks. I am confident our school community will come out of this challenge stronger than ever and I am proud to be a part of it.”
