One person is dead after a car crash on April 18 that occurred at the Blackfalds overpass on Hwy 2. Ponoka Traffic Services, Red Deer Rural RCMP and the Lacombe Fire and Ambulance responded to the call at approximately 8:15 p.m.

The investigation has determined that the pickup truck was southbound on Hwy 2 when the driver lost control on icy road conditions rolling several times in the median. The passenger was ejected from the vehicle and the driver was able to crawl out. The passenger was taken to the Lacombe hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The driver was transported to Red Deer Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Names are not being released at this time and the accident is still under investigation.

Numerous other accidents occurred during the recent winter storm with drivers going into the ditch or stuck on the roads. As well many, students had a long weekend as some local schools were closed due to the weather.

Motorists are cautioned when driving on the road this week.
