Ponoka News manager Judy Dick was one of the 23 women nominated for the 2014 Red Deer and District Community Foundation Women of Excellence.
Inger Laing and Melody Helm nominated Dick for the Community Building category in March. “It was an honour to be nominated among so many great women,” said Dick.
In her humble ways, Dick at first refused the nomination. “I just said no . . . quite a few times. But then I said ‘ok this is very nice of you and I feel very privileged you think I would be worth of something such as this.’”
The gala, consisting of the awards ceremony, silent auction and raffles took place June 10 at the Sheraton Hotel convention centre. “It was very classy. It was a very nice, special evening,” said Dick.
Supporting Dick at the gala was two of her sisters, sister-in-law, her co-workers and nominators.
“The women that were nominated I was in awe of,” said Dick. “We’re all family, people looking to feel good about helping others.”
