Shawn Mann of the Bluffton area, a regional operations manager for a Red Deer-based construction equipment company, will be representing the Canadian Action Party (CAP) in the Wetaskiwin riding for this month’s federal election, and said the time is now for voters to elect a government that puts Canadians first.

The Green Party of Canada recently announced that Lacombe resident Les Parsons has been nominated and will represent the riding of Wetaskiwin in the upcoming federal election to be held on Oct. 14.

A self-proclaimed Socialist and admirer of Tommy Douglas and the implementation of the national public health system, Tim Robson of Wetaskiwin will be representing the New Democratic Party of Canada in the federal election on Oct. 14.

With the federal election set to take place on Oct. 14, limited seating was available in the cafeteria of Ponoka Composite High School on Monday evening where local residents gathered to listen to political candidates pitch their party platforms and answer questions posed by the public.

Member of Parliament Blaine Calkins will be seeking his second term in office as the representative of the Wetaskiwin constituency when residents go to the polls on Oct. 14, and by all indications, he should walk away with another overwhelming majority.

Winfield resident Rita Dillon will be running under the red and white banner of the Liberal Party of Canada on Oct. 14 in hopes of winning the Wetaskiwin riding and taking a seat in the House of Commons.

Two incidents occurred in Hobbema within five days of each other. Two people were killed and police are still investigating.

The news of Ponoka’s curfew bylaw has reached the East Coast of Canada. Randy Larcombe, host of CBC Radio’s Central Newfoundland Morning Show, recently phoned up chief administrative officer for Ponoka, Brad Watson, for an interview for his show. Watson says that the conversation with Larcombe went well and he was pleased with the interview.

Environmental damage can prove to be disastrous and the province is taking a step to ensuring that communities have the necessary equipment to deal with those emergencies. Through a program created by the Alberta Environment Support and Emergency Response Team (ASERT), Ponoka has been one of the six chosen communities in the province to receive a spill response equipment trailer.
