With great sadness we announce the passing of Art Szynkowski - a very much loved husband, father, brother, and Papa.
Art was born in Edmonton to Eugenia and Leon Szynkowski. He grew up very involved in sports, especially basketball and soccer. Art graduated from the University of Alberta with an Education degree.
He enjoyed a positive and productive career as part of the St. Augustine School community from 1976 to 2010. He touched the hearts and minds of many children throughout his career with his humor, wisdom, and caring nature. Many former students have let him know that he had had a positive influence on their lives.
Many hours were willingly devoted to coaching school sports, soccer, and hockey. A positive rapport was always evident as he worked and played with the kids.
Art loved life on the acreage and enjoyed the outdoors. His passions included biking, camping, kayaking, cross country skiing, visiting, and apparently, cutting grass and blowing snow. He genuinely enjoyed and cared about people. There was always time to stop for a lengthy visit with people he knew as well as many he had just met by chance.
Art deeply loved his family and was so proud of his kids and grandkids. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 45 years, Jan; children Dave (Marina), Kristin (Brad), and Dan (Miranda); grandchildren Mady, Presley, Danica, Sutter, Toryn, Kaydri, Stella, and Jack; and sisters Elizabeth and Izabela.
Art was predeceased by his dad Leon and mom Eugenia; brothers Karol and Stan; sister Barbara; and nephew Michael.
Art touched many people throughout his life and will be so missed.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Ponoka. A Celebration of Life Reception will follow - feel free to bring an 'Art' story or memory. The private family Interment Service will be held later that day at the Asker Cemetery.
Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Kidney Foundation of Canada, or any charity of your choice.
