Barbara Elizabeth (Beth) Young

Beth Young passed away on October 1st at the Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre after a brief illness with cancer. Beth is survived by her husband of 47 years, Ted and two sons, Edward (Christine), granddaughter Sarah and step-grandchildren Matthew and Alexis, and son Jim (Vicki). Born June 30th, 1949 at Tarbolton to John and Irene Laing, Beth was one of four children, brother Ken (Lorraine) Laing and family, sister Pat (Charlie) Weisgeber and family, and brother Craig (Gerry) Laing and family. Beth was predeceased by her mother and father, John and Irene Laing, family friend Jim Henderson, mother-in-law Grace Young, and father-in-law George Young. November 30th, 1968 Beth married Ted Young and became involved in the family farm operation with Ted. During that time, Beth maintained a large garden which she took great pride in fresh vegetables and canning for the family for the winter, as well helping on the farm with calving, seeding, and harvest. Her hard work and dedication to her family is a pillar of who she was as a person. There was always time to be a supportive fixture to people who came into her life. A good book would not be to far away from her side, when she enjoyed some time to herself. Her love also included the rose garden that she spent many hours nurturing and planning her flower beds. Having family dinners and having the family around was a cherished time, especially granddaughter Sarah who would spend time with Grandpa and Grandma. Showing Christine, Sarah and Vicki about gardening and baking equally pleased her to be apart of, with having the girls part of her family. A private family graveside service will be followed by a come & go fellowship tea at the Ponoka Elks Hall on Thursday, October 6th at 2:30 p.m.. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. To express condolences to Beth’s family, please visit www.womboldfuneralhomes.com.
