In Loving Memory ~
Bernard grew up in the County of Ponoka and attended Manito School in Hobbema (Maskwacis) and later bussed to school in Ponoka.
In Bernard's childhood he enjoyed being active - fishing, skating, riding his bicycle, and playing hockey.
He worked on the farm from a young age along with his sisters. He developed a passion for the farm life and worked hard from his teen years into his 80s. An appreciation for the old style of thrashing was ingrained which led to his interests in volunteering at the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village, Leduc West Antique Society, and taking part in a tractor square dancing group and various tractor shows.
Bernard married the love of his life, Irma, in June 1957. Together, for over 66 years, they shared many memories and travels. During this time Bernard farmed and got his hands into lots of things like clearing land, custom haying, welding, getting his pilot license, restoring antique tractors, and volunteering at the Ponoka Flying Club. He also served on Ponoka County Council, Division 2, from 1989 to 1995.
Bernard is survived by his wife Irma; daughter Barbara (Paul) Scott and grandson Emerson (Candace) Scott; daughter Lorna (Mark) Shannon and grandchildren Larissa Shannon and Jalen Shannon; sisters Edna Hettler and Elsie Duffy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute, Northcott Care Centre, or the Ponoka Wheelchair Van Society.
A Funeral Service to celebrate Bernard's life was held at the Ponoka Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 followed by the Interment Service at Forest Home Cemetery.
The Funeral Service was recorded and the video is available on Bernard's obituary page at womboldfuneralhomes.com
