In Loving Memory ~
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Albert Matejka, known as Bill, on May 5, 2023. He was born on December 23, 1927, at the Matejka Farm homestead in Ponoka County, Alberta. Bill lived a full and meaningful life, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness.
Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife Betty (married in 1951), and his brothers Charlie Matejka (Sylvia) and George Matejka (Yvonne).
He is survived by his children Lori Matejka, John Matejka, Mark (Kathy) Matejka, Anne Moonshine (David), and Dawn Atargatis; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Bill graduated from Brick high school in 1945 and spent his life on the family farm, where he tended to his crops and livestock with unwavering dedication. He also briefly worked as a telephone lineman in Ponoka County, where he helped build some of the original telephone structures in the area.
Throughout his life, Bill was deeply committed to his community. He was an active member of several livestock associations for cattle, sheep and swine. He was a Ponoka 4-H leader for 30 years and played an integral role in the Ponoka Agriculture Society.
Bill was also a member of local historical societies, and he never hesitated to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Bill was a man of few words but his sense of humour and sharp wit left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He never hesitated to tell people they were "foolin' around" if they were not focused on the task at hand.
Bill's passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his memory will live on through his family. He will always be remembered as a loving and compassionate man who dedicated his life to his family, his farm, and his community.
Rest in peace Dad/Grandpa, knowing that you made a positive impact on the world.
