Dec 3, 1918 - Jan 14, 2018
A smile, a laugh, a hello and then Blanche peacefully passed away in her own home.

Born in USONA to Elof and Thea Nelson, Blanche, like her brothers and sisters, embraced farm life and grew to appreciate their parents' love of reading and being allowed to follow one's dreams. Her dream was to write and teach, and she did both. Upon completing Camrose Normal School she taught at Sharphead, Lacombe, Ponoka, and Crestomere.

In the late 30's summers were spent playing softball and attending the Banff School of Fine Arts. On June 30, 1947 she married Don Hoar and they farmed, raised a family of 5 and were active in the Dakota/ Ponoka community. In 1979 they were presented with the Northlands Farm Family Award and in 2004 she was one of many Ponoka women honored at Fort Ostell's Women of Recognition.

While raising a family on the farm, teaching, being active in various organizations from Lions and Rec Boards to Church work like Dakota Sunday School, youth groups, and CGIT, Blanche wrote and sold dozens of children's stories to CBC Broadcasts and to newspapers like the Family Herald, Western Producer and the Edmonton Journal. When not coaching, leading, or travelling she enjoyed her geraniums, a huge garden and never missed an opportunity to share her love and skill for baking and preserving!

Blanche was predeceased by her husband Don and is survived by "little" sister Esther. Her children Gerry (Arlene) Hoar, Lauraine (Doug) Weir, Bill (Dennie) Hoar, Marilyn (Gord) Hoar , Greg (Donna) Hoar and her grandchildren David, Mike, Bryanne, Jonathan, Sean, Erin, Paul, Richelle, Taya & Brian will remember her for her warm smile, big heart and for being a person that loved to do, to enjoy, and to share! She will be sadly missed but always treasured.

A Funeral Service was held on Monday, January 22, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ponoka United Church with Reverend Robin King officiating.

Memorial donations can be made to the Elof & Thea Palliative Care Foundation at FCSS or to a charity of choice.

Condolences and stories can be shared on the Wombold Funeral Home website, womboldfuneralhomes.com.
