In loving memory ~

We are honouring our sassy, playful, loyal, and loving Neen. As the youngest of Harold and June's five children, Deneen was born and raised in Ponoka. She spent much of her childhood chasing her older siblings, especially her big brother. She learned practical skills on the family farm that made it natural for her to find work at Snyder's Feedlot before becoming a Registered Psychiatric Nurse in 1987. She left that behind a few years later to do one of the hardest, but most important jobs: being a mom. If you had asked her, she would have said her children were her greatest joy and her greatest accomplishment.

Neen loved her television shows like Bones, The Walking Dead, Alaskan Bush People and any show where the bad guy got what he deserved in the end. Collecting rocks, sudoku puzzles, and adding beauty to the world with her crafts were her favourite hobbies. Peanut butter sandwiches, raspberries, coke, fig cookies, and yogurt were the snacks of her heart.

Deneen leaves behind: her three children, Megan (Kenny) Atkinson, Nicolle Grover, and Blake Grover; her mother, June Wiancko; sisters, Marie (Terry) Cline and Melody Hansen; many nieces and nephews whom she considered to be her children; and numerous other family and friends. She was predeceased by her father, Harold Wiancko; siblings, Debra Nekich and Myles Wiancko; and brothers-in-law, Reno Nekich and Buck Hansen.

Neen died at Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre, surrounded by the love and laughter of her family. Sadly, she lost her long battle with chronic illness. We would like to take the opportunity to thank all the staff and physicians at Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre for the exemplary care she received in all of her many visits. Special thanks to Dr. Greyling for being her incredible family physician, improving her quality of life, and never underestimating her ability to stubbornly recover.

A celebration of life will be held on June 13, 2024, at 1:00 pm, at Hudson's Green Nature and Activity Centre in Ponoka. Per Neen's request, anyone attending the celebration is strongly discouraged from wearing black, somber clothing. Neen loved colour, the more vibrant the better. As Deneen prioritized finding joy in life and sharing it with others, we ask that you do the same. Go out and do something that brings you real joy and share it with those around you. If you feel so moved, reach out and tell us about it or of another joyful time shared with Deneen.

In lieu of flowers, we request donations be made to STARS Air Ambulance or Ponoka & District Health Foundation.
