Dorothy Ragan of Ponoka passed away on December 1, 2009 at the age of 87 years. Dorothy was born on the farm at Eastside on August 31, 1922 and attended school at Eastside and Ponoka. She loved to play the piano and played for several years at the United Church. Dorothy married Robert Ragan, known as Bob, on June 12, 1946. They lived in the Ponoka area for several years as Bob worked on area farms. They then moved to Edmonton where they made their home with their son Dwayne. After Bob’s retirement they moved back to Ponoka where Dorothy’s parents and family lived. They enjoyed camping, family reunions and traveling in their retirement years. In her spare time Dorothy loved to help at the hospital gift shop as a volunteer. She always had a small house dog to keep her company in the house where she was presently residing. Dorothy is survived by her sister Alice Spelrem; sister-in-law Faye Schierer; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Robert Ragan in 2001 and their son Dwayne in 1979; her parents William and Dessie Schierer; brothers Walter, Clarence and Lawrence; and sisters Blanche Hill and Laura Davies. Dorothy will be remembered for her loving, gentle, friendly nature. The nieces and nephews loved to stay with her and Bob during the summer holidays and other occasions. A Funeral Service for Dorothy will be held on Tuesday, December 8th at 2:00 p.m. at the Ponoka United Church with the Interment Service following at Forest HomeCemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Ponoka F.C.S.S..
