Doug Ruggles

July 16, 1955 – August 16, 2016

Doug Ruggles passed away suddenly and unexpectedly while fishing with Lori at Chain Lakes. He will be forever missed by his soul mate Lori Mohl-Stephanson; his only son Craig; step-children Katrina and Eric; and three step-grandchildren Evan, Karlee and Jayden. Also missing him are his mother Arlette; father Jim (Dallas); four siblings Jerry (Patty), Cheryl, Brenda (Philip) and Joanne (Viktor); as well as five nieces and nephews, two great-nephews, and many other extended family and friends. Doug and Lori enjoyed being out in nature and spent much time camping and fishing. They also spent a great amount of time in their backyard surrounded by friends. Doug’s first major job was in Wabamun slashing bush. On weekends he would hitchhike back to Ponoka to be with his family and friends. Doug was a skilled backhoe operator working numerous jobs throughout Alberta and in the Yukon. Due to his failing eyesight from glaucoma, he reluctantly had to quit work in the past few years. This allowed him more time for fishing, although he depended on others to drive him to the lake. Doug was a quiet man who made friends wherever he went. One thing everyone enjoyed about Doug was his love of poking fun and sharing a laugh. He would help anyone, anytime without question. He always had our back and proved that time and time again. A Celebration of Life was held at the Royal Canadian Legion in Ponoka on Monday August 22. Memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Glaucoma Society.
