February 1, 1936 - March 14, 2020
With great sadness, the family of Egon Badel wish to inform that on March 14, 2020 the world lost a true gentleman, guiding light and positive spirit, at the Rockyview Hospital (Calgary), at the age of 84.
He is survived by his son Bryn Badel of Victoria B.C., daughter-in-law Muge and grand-daughters Maya and Evren and by his daughter Seline Badel-Wong of Calgary, son-in-law Jason and grandsons Logan and Luke.
Born February 1, 1936 Egon survived his beloved wife of 42 years, Joan Sharen Badel (nee: Ward). A widower for thirteen years, he persevered through his greatest loss and learned to travel on his own and make new friends, especially those of his wonderful neighbors and former colleagues.
Born in Hamburg, Germany, Egon immigrated to Canada at the age of 21. An adventurous, young man he worked in a gold mine in Yellowknife to earn money. Returning to Calgary he followed his passion for skiing, and invented a ski binding and started a manufacturing company. During this, he met Joan and got married then traveled extensively as a couple before starting a family. As a family man, he began an illustrious career at Sears, lasting 30 years until his retirement at the age of 57.
Egon was most proud of his children and especially his grandchildren. He spent much time with his grandsons, and traveled to Victoria to spend time with his grand-daughters.
Aligned with Egon's wishes and in light of Covid19, no service was held, please visit www.egonbadel.com for an e-tribute to our beloved Father. Egon was buried with Joan at the Ponoka Cemetery.
