Ella Winter passed away peacefully at the Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre on Monday, August 4, 2008 at the age of 79 years after an arduous battle, for over five years, with arthritis. Ella was born west of Wetaskiwin, Alberta on July 21, 1929 the second daughter of Augusta and Henry Polei. Ella went to the Big Stone School west of Wetaskiwin up to and including grade seven. After that she helped her father on the farm until sh got married. On April 16, 1952, Ella married Edward Winter of Ferintosh at the Peace Hills Lutheran Church west of Wetaskiwin. Ella and Edward farmed at Ferintosh for two years until moving to the present farm just north of Ponoka where they have been farming for the past 54 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 56 years, Ed; their children Deborah, Joyce and Dale (Margaret); three grandchildren Helena, Lisa and Dale Jr.; her sisters Anne Warnke and Joyce Polei; her brother Ernie Polei; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Martha (George) Woodside, Alma Schierman, Minnie (Ervin) Buss, Ruby (Bill) Gialet and Shirley Winter; her aunt Lydia Feldberg; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Henry and Augusta Polei; brothers-in-law Alf Warnke, William Winter, Cyril Young, Virgil Dahms, Norman Schierman, Rienhold Winter, Paul Winter, John Winter and Bill Graff; and sisters-in-law Ann Graff, Freida Dahms and Agnes Winter. A Funeral Service was held at the Trinity Lutheran Church on Saturday, August 9, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. with Reverend Larry Soveran officiating. Interment followed in the Forest Home Cemetery. Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to the Arthritis Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta.
