Esther Emma Orom, of Ponoka, passed away at Northcott Care Center on Thursday, May 22, 2008, at the age of 84 years. Esther was born in Endicott, Washington, USA on August 25,1923. That same year, the family returned to Alberta where Esther grew up on a farm in the Bashaw area.
In 1943, Esther married Rudolph Orom and they celebrated 64 years of married life. Esther and Rudy farmed in the Schultz community until moving to Ponoka in 1986. Esther made friends easily with her welcoming smile, her "down to earth" good nature, and her love of a good joke. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, time with family & friends, and traveling to places far and near. Esther and Rudy enjoyed RVing with the Good Sam Club and later all the activities at the Senior Drop In Center. Esther was an active member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Bashaw, and then Trinity Lutheran Church, Ponoka.
Esther is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of 64 years, Rudy, son Harvey and his wife Carol, grandchildren; Warren, Heidi, Aaron, Danielle, and Heather, great grandchildren; Chloe, Adrian, and Amina, sisters in law; Julia Dunbar, Louise Orom, and Terry Orom, special friends; Devin & Darlene Pfahl and Terry & Suzanne Cameron, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Esther was predeceased by her parents, August and Albertina Stedel, an infant daughter, daughter Mavis Wessel, four brothers; John, Ewald, Walter, and Henry, two sisters; Frieda Eisler and Lois Stedel.
A celebration of Esther’s life will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church at 2 pm on Monday, June 2, 2008, with Pastor David Schumacher officiating.
