It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Esther Mary "Mollie" Butterfield at Ponoka, Alberta on November 4, 2018 at the age of 89 years.
Mollie was born in Edmonton, Alberta on January 31, 1929 and raised in the small community of Bremner. Mollie lost her mother at an early age, so she & her sister Betty were raised by their father Stan Fleming. Mollie met Tom when she moved to Ponoka to take a job at a local bank. They soon married, and the legacy of their lives began with ranching, farming, and raising their family. They started out with very little in life but what they didn't have, Mollie would make.
She was a tremendous cook and homemaker, and her door was always open for family and friends - her house soon became a gathering place for all. Mollie instilled in her children and grandchildren her great sense of values and morals and these will live on through her family. She was determined, hard working, and had a great sense of humor. Her absolute love, devotion and dedication to her family will never be forgotten.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children Greg (Maria), Blake (Rose), Lori Smith (Greg), and Dianne; grandchildren Luke, Brock, Kelsy, Cole (Lacey), Reid (Justine), Aleah (Myuran), Jordan, and Nolan (Kelsey); great-grandchildren Thomas, Dylan, Lily, Nash, Will, Sadie, Tate, Maisy, and Sophie; as well as many other relatives and friends.
Mollie was predeceased by her husband Thomas, daughter Laurel, sister Betty, and son in law Verne.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Ponoka Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2018 with Reverend Robin King officiating. Please join the family at the Anglican Church hall for a reception following the service.
Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to the C.N.I.B. or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta.
