Frederic Alvin 'Fred' Dahms

January 24, 1936 - August 21, 2022
Frederic (Fred) Alvin Dahms passed away on August 21, 2022 at the age of 86 years. He was born on January 24, 1936 in Wetaskiwin, AB. where he spent his first 7 years. The family then moved to the Ponoka area.
Fred attended several schools including Wang, Elkhorn, Fertile Forest and Wolfville. As a teenager, and being on the farm he was actively involved in 4H. After his grade 11 year at Ponoka High School he was employed in oil related jobs in the winter months in Western Canada and the N.W.T., but his urge for farming always brought him back to the land.
Throughout his younger years he was active in football, softball, hockey and curling and always maintained an interest in those sports as well as boxing. He took up golf with other family members and was a member of the Ponoka Golf Club for nearly 20 years.
Fred farmed the family homestead. Each year he planted a small crop and large garden. He enjoyed raising a small herd of cows and loved his cats and dogs.
Fred is remembered by his daughter Lorie (Mitch) Sprokkreeff, 3 grandsons, 10 great-grandchildren, one brother-in-law, one sister-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents Ernest and Josephine Dahms, sisters Bertha Bamber and Joan Glass,and brother Gerald Dahms.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at the Morningside Community Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to West Central Region 4-H Alberta.
