George R. Watson

May 22, 1920 - November 18, 2011

On Friday, November 18, 2011 George R. Watson passed away at the age of 91 years. He is survived by his three children: Donna (Jerry) Melnyk, Doug (Joan) Watson and Gloria (John) Filiatrault; three grandchildren: Shellie-Jo, Andre (Charmaine) and Jerralyn; and four great-grandchildren: Jasmine, Kaeman, Ainslee and Andrew who affectionately called him Ol'Pa. He was predeceased by his wife Lillian in 2005. George was raised in Ponoka and it was the only place he called home. After graduation from high school he started working at PMH as a Psych Nurse and within a few years he became the Lab Technician. Life was good on the grounds of PMH, a family all its own and that is where they raised their family. Shortly before his retirement "grandpa and grandma" moved from the grounds of PMH to their own little house where they enjoyed life to the fullest as they enjoyed traveling to nearby lakes and campgrounds in their motor home and were avid hikers as they explored miles and miles of the surrounding area as well as many trips to visit the children and grandchildren. In recent years George was a strong supporter of the local museum contributing items and sharing many stories and tales from his days at PMH. He attended the 100th Anniversary Celebrations of the hospital where again he shared many memories with those in attendance. Shortly before his passing George moved to his new home in the Sunrise Village which he enjoyed tremendously. The family would like to thank everyone for their kind thoughts and support as well as the staff at the Sunrise Village who made his stay there so wonderful. It was George's wish that no services be held. If anyone wishes, donations may be made to the Fort Ostell Museum.
