It is with sadness that the family of Gordon John Warlo of Camrose, AB announces his passing on February 18, 2021 at the age of 73. He was born July 26, 1947 in Lacombe, AB and was the 2nd son and 5th child in a family of 6 children born to Hans and Evelyn (Ferlin) Warlo.
A celebration of his life led by Chaplain Brian Kushel of Camrose was held Saturday, March 6th at the Ponoka Funeral Home. Internment followed at the Ellice Free Methodist Cemetery 9 miles west of Bashaw.
Gordon was predeceased by his brother Bernard who died at the age of 16, his parents, and his sister, June Semmler. He is survived by 3 sisters: Joyce (Peter) Stryker of Saskatoon, SK; Carol (Ron) Sellers of Powell River, BC; and Lorrain Browning (Frank) of Bend, Oregon. Also mourning his passing is his dear friend, Diane Reynolds Wilson, of Ponoka, Alberta, brother-in-law Gary Semmler of Sherwood Park, 10 nieces and nephews, and dear friends.
Gordon grew up on the family farm in the Rutherford community about 9 miles north of Tees, Alberta. He attended Mecca Glen School in the County of Ponoka from grades I to XI and then took Grade XII at Mirror School.
During his growing up years he attended the Ellice Free Methodist Church with his family and, as a teen, enjoyed the wonderful Friday night youth activities. After graduation, he attended Aldersgate College in Moose Jaw for 2 years and then studied 2 years at the University of Alberta.
Gordon's career varied. He pastored a small country church for a year, did milk delivery in Edmonton, drove a semi-truck, did farm employment, and worked for the Canadian Forest Service in Northern BC planting tree saplings. After moving to an acreage near Wetaskiwin, he enjoyed organic gardening. He also enjoyed running and participated in a number of full and half marathons in Edmonton.
He was a caring person with a winning smile and always enjoyed visiting with family and friends.
