January 10, 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Gordon Ernest Kroening, of Ponoka, on January 10, 2022 at the age of 76 years.
Gordon is survived by his wife of 44 years, Pearl; his children Lonnie, Wade (Darci), Corey Kroening, and Cory Neddo (Virginia); seven grandchildren and five great- grandchildren; sister Elaine (Roy); sister-in-law Adena Bauer (Cam); as well as numerous other family and friends. Gordon was predeceased by his parents Ernie and Pearl Kroening; brother and sister-in-law Fred and Dora Kroening; and sister Joyce Beach.
Gordon spent most of his life working on drilling rigs throughout Alberta and through all those years of working on the drilling rigs, he made many bonds and shared many a beer with many lifelong friends and many lifelong friendships that were made along the way. One of the fondest memories of Gordon was Gordon being able to mentor his youngest son Cory on the finer points of working in the oil field, with the two of them working together on drilling rigs for well over ten years, which created a bond that will never be forgotten. Gordon had two loves in his life; enjoying a Budweiser beer and playing guitar. A very accomplished, self-taught musician, he especially enjoyed when the opportunity came around, to play with his niece Betty and as he would say "show her the tricks of the trade".
As per Gordon's wish, there will be no public service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gordon's name are gratefully accepted to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta.
