Gordon Vold
Gordon James Douglas Vold was born in Ponoka on May 20, 1922 and passed away September 8, 2010. He was the only child of his parents James Vold and Borghild Ravnsborg. They moved to the home farm in Asker in 1923 where Gordon farmed in his adult life until 1957. He was married to Leona Tschirren in December of 1953. In 1957 Gordon accepted a position as Assistant Secretary with the County of Ponoka #3 which prompted a move with his family to Ponoka. In 1973 he was appointed County Administrator, a position he held until his retirement in 1982. Gordon was an active member of the Ponoka Kinsmen and K-40's and was a 50+ year member of the Ponoka Elks Lodge. He was also a piano player in the Asker Orchestra for approximately 30 years. He leaves to mourn his passing one son Bradley (Margaret); one daughter Crystal Janine; one granddaughter Jasmine (Eric); one grandson Kurtis (Alix); one great-grandson Kieran; and a host of friends and relatives. He was predeceased by his wife Leona. Visitation will be held at the Ponoka Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 12. A Funeral Service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ponoka at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, September 13 with Reverend David Schumacher officiating. Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to the Alberta Cancer Foundation (Prostate).
