Grace Hurst

Edna Grace Hurst passed away in Taber on Friday, May 13, 2011 at the age of 95 years.

A Burial Service was held at the Taber Memorial Garden, one kilometer north of 64 Avenue on 50 Street, Taber on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Ron Gartly officiating. Condolences may be forwarded by visiting our website atwww.southlandfuneral.com.

She is survived by her daughter Mildred Ziegler of Ponoka and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband Ransford Hurst; five children including daughter Muriel Grace Pauls of Taber; six brothers and sisters.

Grace was born June 11, 1915 in Stranraer, Saskatchewan. She lived a long, good life. She starting work at the age of thirteen as a housekeeper and babysitter. Grace married Ransford Hurst in 1930 when she was fifteen and they made their home at Rosetown, Saskatchewan. In 1963, Ransford passed away. She spent many years working as a cook in hospitals, hotels, cafes and also cooked for the Department of Highways. Pies and bran muffins became her specialty. Before moving to Taber in her eighties, Grace spent a number of her retirement years with her special friend John Gisle. When she turned eighty nine, the Clearview Lodge became the place she warmly called home. Her daily “Gramma hugs” were anticipated by those who worked at the lodge and loved her.

Having her as “Gramma” is something we will all treasure forever.
