Harold Bruce Thompson


It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Harold Bruce Thompson "Bruce", of Ponoka, Alberta, beloved husband of Martie, on February 27, 2012 at the age of 72 years following a long battle with cancer. Bruce is survived by his wife Martie; daughters Carolyn and Jean (Charles Segall) and son Richard (Amanda & Zakary). He is also survived by his brothers Glenford (Edith), Hugh (Bernie), Don (Joyce), and sister Verona Faulkner of Alliston, Ontario and his brothers Bill (Frances), John and Robert (Sharron) of Alberta. He was predeceased by his brother Delmar (Audrey) and brother-in-law Don Faulkner of Alliston, Ontario. Bruce was born on May 28, 1939 in Alliston, Ontario the son of Wilfred and Jenny Thompson. He came to Alberta in 1959 to work in southern Alberta and to pursue a love of aviation. He then moved to northern Alberta to work for Shell and following Shell he became a farmer in the Peace Country until his retirement in 1993. In his retirement he spent his summers in Ponoka and his winters in Arizona with his wife Martie enjoying the desert and his hobbies such as golf and lapidary work. A Celebration of Life will be held on March 15, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ponoka United Church. In lieu of flowers memorial donations are gratefully accepted to Prostate Cancer Canada and/or the Cross Cancer Institute.
