Hazel Eleanor Rust of Ponoka passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at the age of 78. Hazel is survived by her husband of 59 years Reg, her sons Rory and Ron (Eileen) five grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren and a sister Connie (Ken) Kjenner; sister-in-law Lorraine (Lynn) Julyan and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Donald and Clara Eastwood, daughter Lorie Whitney and sisters Ethel Hollihan, Vera Brzus, and Evelynn Pederson and sister-in-law Marilyn (Ron) Kurenda.
Born at Ponoka July 19,1940; Hazel spent her life in and around the Ponoka area. Raised on a mixed farm near Menaik, Hazel attended Bobtail School grades one through 9 and then on to school in Ponoka where she graduated in 1958. She married Reg June 17, 1960 and then started a family shortly thereafter. Always active in the community, Hazel was involved with 4H, Women of the Moose and the Royal Canadian Legion, Alberta Donkey and Mule Club, as well as the Alberta Cowboy Poetry Association.
A celebration of Hazel's life will be held Saturday, April 13 at 2:00 pm in the Ponoka Legion hall. Donations can be made in her honour to Mazankowski Heart Institute.
