April 18, 1924 - April 14, 2023
In loving memory ~
Hedwig (Hedi) Ruck of Ponoka, Alberta has passed away on April 14, 2023 at the Lacombe General Hospital. Hedi was born in Sarata, Bessarabia on April 18, 1924.
She lived there with her family until 1940 when they forced to flee as a result of WWII conflict. They spent the next few years travelling thru Eastern Europe during the war before eventually arriving in Germany in 1944. In 1948 Hedwig immigrated to Canada along with her mother Bertha and brother Bruno, making Ponoka, Alberta the place she would always refer to as home.
She worked at the Ponoka General Hospital in laundry for a few years before moving over to the Ponoka Hospital (Centennial Centre) Alberta, where she would work for next 35 years. She spent most of her free time in the summer months taking care of her yard, and she was especially proud of her bountiful garden and raspberry bushes.
Hedi also loved to play the slot machines, and after her retirement found a new hobby - bus trips to Jackpot, Reno, and Las Vegas during the winter months.
At 95 years Hedi finally sold her house in Ponoka, and moved over Royal Oaks LTC in Lacombe. She was pre-deceased by her mother, Berta Ruck (1977), father, August Ruck (1943), and brother, Bruno Ruck (December 26, 2022). She leaves behind niece and family, Lana and Ken Cooper, Jessica and Lindsay and nephew and family, Michael and Lili Ruck, Stephanie and Otto.
