Born in Leader, Saskatchewan, having lived every day to the full, Ida Banco passed away peacefully just six days shy of age 95, at the Northcott Care Centre. She will be lovingly remembered by her four children: Don (Linda), Gordon (Marcella), Shirley (Peter) McGowan, and Carol Dares; grandchildren Andrea, Marla, Lindsey, Lorey, Kelly, Jennifer, John, Katie, Victoria, Jesse, and Josh; and ten great- grandchildren. She is survived by her brother Ted Jess and sister Clara (Florian) Eberl. Ida was predeceased by her husband of 71 years, Walter, and her sister Ella Minke. Ida was a woman of energy and action. She loved to be surrounded by people, and was never daunted by hard work. Walter and Ida farmed near Ponoka for 30 years. Ahead of her time, she worked off the farm as soon as her youngest child went off to school, working at Northcott, The Centennial Centre, General Hospital, selling Real Estate, and was house supervisor at the Ponoka Halfway House for 27 years. Concurrently, Walter and Ida bought and renovated old houses, travelled extensively, entertained, and were active in their church and community. Thank you to the staff at Rimoka and Northcott for excellent care. A Memorial Service was held at the Ponoka Funeral Home on Friday, December 27, 2019 followed by an Interment Service at Forest Home Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Alberta Diabetes Foundation of any charity of your choosing. To express condolences to Ida's family, please visit womboldfuneralhomes.com.
