September 7, 1943 – August 26, 2020
With immense heartache we announce the sudden passing of Inger M. Laing of the Ponoka, Alberta area. She passed away near Squamish, B.C. on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at the age of 76 years.
Inger and her family immigrated from Denmark in 1950. She was a hard-working woman with many talents. Inger drove cars in demolition derbies, knew how to drive farm machinery, was an amazing hairdresser, did bookkeeping, meticulously sewed many wedding dresses, and made stunning ceramic dolls; to name a few. She loved to spend time with her family and friends, often cooking meals for everyone. Whenever possible, Inger attended sporting events and activities to show support and cheer on her favorite teams. She had a passion for lilies, and couldn’t wait until spring to go to the nursery to buy a tree or a new plant for the yard. Many beautiful summer days were spent riding her green trike, taking in the scenic landscapes around her. Inger was a business woman for many years and upheld a strong sense of community, serving on the Ponoka Chamber of Commerce for about ten years. She possessed a big heart and was always thinking of others. Her absence will be deeply felt by many.
Inger will be forever remembered and greatly missed by her loving family: her son, Dan (Carla) Garland of Rimbey; four treasured grandchildren: Ryley, Casey, Scotty, and Sami; and three precious great grandchildren: Asher, Owen, and Elise. She will also be lovingly remembered by her siblings: two brothers, Bent (Phyllis) Nornberg of Rimbey; and Henning Nornberg of Dawson Creek, B.C.; and one sister, Hanne Andersen of Surrey, B.C.; in addition to several other family members, and many close friends. Inger was predeceased by her husband, Don; a cherished friend, Rick; and three brothers: Kent, Paul, and Morris.
With respect for Inger’s wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. If friends desire, memorial tributes in her memory may be made directly to the charity of one’s choice. Condolence messages may be forwarded to the family by visiting: www.ofc-ltd.ca Obituary
