PIPKE
John J. Pipke was born at home on a farm near Hatton,
SK on August 10, 1917. While he was still a small boy his
family fled drought and moved to Holden AB., where he
lived and established his own farming operation. Here, he
married ANNA FROELICH on June 28, 1942. Together
they had 4 boys, GORDON, ROLAND, ELWOOD, and
MORRIS. Over his lifetime, John farmed in Eckville,
Castor, and High River, with the majority of his career in
Bashaw where he raised purebred HEREFORD cattle
with his son Elwood. He and Anna then retired to nearby
Ponoka in 1985 where he actively enjoyed many hobbies
such as ice fishing, curling, Skip-Bo, and trading vehicles.
He was an avid bowler, and was involved in many
tournaments in Central Alberta. He always enjoyed the
Ponoka Stampede, the parade, and the gardening
competition, and John and Anna won BEST SENIOR
GARDEN many years running. His last move was to Unity
Saskatchewan to be closer to the family farming operation
of Elwood and grandson JS. John was predeceased
by Anna in October, 2008. Cherishing the memory of John
are his four sons: Gordon of Vancouver BC, Roland of
