WALL

Mr. John Wall Mr. John Wall of Rimbey, Alberta passed away suddenly on Friday, March 11, 2011 at the age of 81 years.

John was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan on December 22, 1929, and spent many years on the prairies. Growing up, he worked in his father's general store and on the family grain farm. Later, John owned and operated a small hotel and pub in Pontrillas, Saskatchewan. In the early 1970's, he moved with his family to Yellowknife, Northwest Territories where John took a job as an operator at the City of Yellowknife Pump House. He was a strong believer in a job well done, and retired as pump house foreman in 1997. During these years, John was also very active in the city employee's union, and was a longtime member of the local Elks Club. John was an avid sportsman his entire life with a passion for the outdoors. As a youth he played baseball and hockey, and years later while in Pontrillas, he enjoyed coaching a junior baseball team. John also enjoyed hunting, curling, bowling and golf. There was a softer side to John as well, seen most often when he was surrounded by his family and especially his grandchildren. John was truly in his element though, when boating on Great Slave Lake. Trips with him to the spectacular East Arm, Francois Bay, White Point Beach, and many other beautiful hideaways on the Big Lake are memories that will always be treasured by his family and friends. Maybe Long John and Big Red are together again … scouting out a new cove.

John will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his three daughters, Shelly (Bob) Duchesne of Edmonton; Gaelynn (Miles) Dube of Fort Saskatchewan; and Erin Wall (Pieter Broere) of Bluffton; six cherished grandchildren, Trieva, Jed, Dayle, Devon, Lyric and Zephyr; as well as his former wife, Pat Wall of Edmonton. He will also be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his brother, Richard (Valerie) Wall of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; two sisters, Marie (Stuart) Thiesson; and Louise Tweed, both of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; in addition to many nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his parents; and one brother, Stanley.

A Public Funeral Service in Celebration of John's Life will be held at the Rimbey United Church, Rimbey on Friday, March 25, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Deborah Laing officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the West Haven Cemetery, Rimbey. If friends desire, memorial tributes in John's Memory may be made directly to the Alberta Lung Association, Red Deer Division, Box 370, Red Deer, Alberta T4N 6G5.
