Kathryn Denise (Boyd) Nicholson

Kathy was born on February 10, 1960 in Hartney, Manitoba. Because her dad was a banker, she lived at Whitewood, Saskatoon and Regina, Saskatchewan, Thompson and Winnipeg, Manitoba, Thunder Bay, Ontario and Ponoka, Alberta. Kathy took her high school education in Regina at Sheldon William Collegiate. She took her swimming training at the Y.M.C.A. in Regina and worked at Cupar and Rodville, Saskatchewan and Neepawa, Manitoba. In 1980, Kathy followed her father to Ponoka and ran the Aquaplex. Kathy married Tim Nicholson on November 13, 1982. He was another Saskatchewan import to Ponoka. Tim and Kathy had three children Michael, Jillian and Jennifer. Tim was an oilfield worker, so their early years of marriage were spent at the oil rig leases. For the past seven years, Kathy worked at Bruce’s True Value Hardware. She loved her work there. The customers were her lifeline. Kathy passed away in Ponoka on June 19, 2008 at the age of 48 years. She is lovingly survived by her husband Tim Nicholson; her son Michael (Brittany) Nicholson; her daughters Jillian and Jennifer Nicholson; her parents Hugh and Donna Boyd; her siblings Jamie Boyd, Patti (Gordon) Bligh and Murray Bax (Barb Sondermann); her grandmother Ruby Cathcart; her sister-in-law Linda (Doug) Andrews; and her brother-in-law Ron (Debbie) Nicholson. She was predeceased by her niece Kaitlin Bligh; her father-in-law Jim Nicholson; and her mother-in-law Betty Nicholson. A Service of Remembrance was held at Ponoka Funeral Home on June 23, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Celebrant Marlyn Kaus officiating. Donations are gratefully accepted to Ponoka F.C.S.S.
