SHEEHAN, Kenneth Richard

Born in Ottawa, Ontario on July 26, 1946.

BSc (Agr. Majoring in Wildlife and Fisheries Management, Guelph University);

MHA (Hospital Administration, University of Toronto).

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Ken Sheehan on January 23, 2018.

He is survived by his loving wife Robin; son Brent (Krista, children Alara, Dawson and Londyn); son Tim (Beatrice, children Levi, Summer and Cleary); daughter Jane (Richard, son Brendon); predeceased by parents Desmond James and Helen Myrtle (Booth) Sheehan.

Ken dedicated his life fully to work, family, farming, fishing, hunting, and wise conservation. Ken was as comfortable in manure covered boots as he was in a suit and polished shoes. As an Executive Director he sought staff with exceptional potential. He was skilled in the ability to bring out the best in his staff, exceeding all expectations. He took great pride in achieving 4-year Accreditation with Distinction in 1995 for Alberta Hospital Ponoka. He initiated and provided leadership for the construction of the Activity and Treatment Centre, Dave Russell Education Complex, Halvar Jonson Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre, the Adult Psychiatry and Seniors Programs. His vision and goals were always to ensure exemplary patient care.

In September 2017, Ken's meritorious record of service was officially recognized with a ceremony naming the Ken Sheehan Wing, Adult Psychiatry Program at The Centennial Centre for Mental Health and Brain Injury, Ponoka, Alberta. Ken loved farming and instilled the importance of hard work, dedication and teamwork to his family. He always balanced work and play on the farm taking his family fishing, hunting and camping. Ken loved his grandchildren; their energy and enthusiasm brought out his patience and tenderness. Ken volunteered with the Ponoka Fish and Game Association and particularly enjoyed participating in the youth programs.

Ken played a role in our family that is irreplaceable. We will certainly miss him.

In Ken's memory, donations may be made to the Ponoka Rising Sun Clubhouse (Box 4515, Ponoka, Alberta T4J 1S1) or to the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 86 (5003 - 52 Avenue, Wetaskiwin, Alberta, T9A 0W9).

A Drop-In Memorial Service was held at the Wetaskiwin Legion, on Tuesday, January 30, 2018.
