Laura Edith Massing

1926 - 2011


L. Edith Massing passed away suddenly on December 30, 2011. She was born in July of 1926 to Charlie and Laura Malcher and was raised in the Calumet community where she attended school followed by High School in Lacombe and Normal School in Edmonton. Edith began her teaching career at Fertile Forest where she met her life time partner of 63 years, Osmar Massing. Her teaching career included time in Ponoka, Rio and later Mecca Glen. Ossie and Edith farmed 11 years west of Ponoka on the Massing farm and in 1959 they moved with their 5 children to Edith’s dad’s farm in Calumet. Edith’s passions in life were her family, teaching, music, gardening, friends and community and she put her heart into everything she undertook. Edith and Ossie lived on the farm until 2007 when they moved to Ponoka. In 2010 they moved into Sunrise Village. Edith was predeceased by her husband Osmar on December 2, 2011. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Marianne Grayston and grandchildren Scott & Kelsie; son Miles (Mary-Lou), granddaughter Jill (Dallas) & great-granddaughter Janae, grandson Mark, grandson Craig & great-grandson Carter; daughter Marilyn (Allan) Hoy; son Rick (Brenda) and granddaughters Jenny & Emily; sisters-in-law Dixie Malcher and Edna Stewart; and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by Murray and Gordon Massing, Ken Grayston, Phillip (Ruby) Malcher, Bernice (Harold) Stretch, Johnny Malcher, Minnie Malcher, Signe (Howard) Scheelar and Henry Stewart. A Funeral Service was held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ponoka at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 with the Interment Service following at Forest Home Cemetery.
